This former Charters Towers Church of Christ is now closed, and the property sold. It was originally a Lutheran Church building.
The founder of the original Lutheran congregation was Mr Christian Paradies who contributed to the building cost. Mr Carl Riederich donated the land and other costs. It was built for the Lutherans in Charters Towers gold mining heyday. The cornerstone was laid in 1885 and the church was completed and opened in March 1886. The church declined during the war and was purchased by the Churches of Christ in Septemeber 1915. For a time it was also used by the Charters Towers Baptist Church, until it moved to 40 Hodgkinson Street, Charters Towers. More historical information/photographs of the former church(es)/congregation(s) are invited. Photographs uploaded 26/04/2016 & 19/10/2020.
