In 1886 St Mark's Church of England was built at Wivenhoe Pocket. It was inundated in the Brisbane River floods of 1890, but survived, only to be completeing washed away in the 1893 floods. A new and higher site was chosen in Lowood for a replacement church.
In November 1893, the Queensland Governor, Sir Henry Wylie Norman performed the stump capping ceremony for the new church at Lowood. It was re-dedicated as St James' when a replacement church for St Mark's was built in Wivenhoe.
More historical information/photographs of the church/congregation are invited. Photographs uploaded 12/4/2017.
