J G Ward Memorial Presbyterian Church - Former

The former J G Ward Memorial Presbyterian Church building, in Mapoon, was opened on 9/6/1906, and replaced earlier basic structures, built about 1892 and 1896. The church had been involved in missionary  activity from the late 1800s among the local peoples, in conjunction with Moravian Missionaries. These activities continued until the town was formally emptied in 1963 by government edict. Although the church building was used for some time after 1963, due to lack of funds for maintenace, it eventually fell into disrepair. No other details are known.
