This building, replacing a smaller Presbyterian Church on this site on the corner of Creek Street and Wickham Terrace, was opened by the Rev G D Buchanan BA of the Cairns Memorial Church, Melbourne on 6 November 1887.
The Railway Department resumed the property, including the church, and the Presbyterian moved to St Andrew's on the corner of Creek and Ann Streets, commencing services there on 27/8/1905. The building became a repository for Railway Department records and maps and from 1929 to 1941 was used as a gymnasium.
In 1942 it was leased to City Congregational Church who remained until 1959. Thus this fine Gothic buiulding was used by the Presbyterian for 17 years and by the Congregationalists for a further 17 years. It was demolished to make way for new roads in the area in the 1970s.
More historical information/photographs of the former church(es)/congregation(s) are invited. Photographs uploaded 4/11/2019.
