The South Brisbane Congregational Church, began on 9/7/1865, when it held its first service in the Mechanics' Institute, 472 Stanley Street. Its first church building, a timber structure, was erected and opened in Grey Street on 13/1/1867. Unfortunately this timber building was irreparably damaged by flood in February 1893.
A new Congregational church building was erected and opened in Vulture Street on 23/7/1894, but it was destroyed by fire on 16/10/1931. A replacement church building was opened and dedicated on 9/9/1933. It was used by the South Brisbane congregation until it amalgamated with the Mt Gravatt congregation, holding its final service on 7/12/1975. The building was then sold to the St Nicholas Free Serbian Orthodox Church (see separate entry - 4101).
More historical information/photographs of the former Congregational church(es)/congregation(s) are invited. Photographs uploaded 13/5/2021.
