The Good Shepherd Catholic Church, The Gap (Mt Isa) is part of the Parish of Mount Isa and the Diocese of Townsville. The pastoral needs of the early Mt Isa community was served by priests from the Parish of Cloncurry. The first church building, originally erected in 1916 in Duchess, was purchased and relocated to Camooweal Street, Mt Isa in 1930, about the same time as the parish was created. The first Priest, Fr Hugh Twomey  had to live in the back of the church until the Presbytery was opened on 13/7/1930 by Bishop T McGuire, the first Australian born Bishop and the first Bishop of the new Diocese of Townsville (it had been created out of part of the Diocese of Rockhampton). In November 1985 the present church building and parish centre were opened and blessed by Bishop Benjamin. It replaced an earlier 1962 church building. More historical information/photographs of the church/congregation are invited. Photographs uploaded 2/7/2024.
