Foundation Stone Notes: | Foundation stone was laid on 19/3/1868 by Bishop Tufnell. More information/photograph of foundation stone is invited. A plaque records: St Mark's Anglican Church - designed by Richard Suter - foundation stone laid in 1868 by Bishop Tufnell - the western extensions to the church were completed in 1940 - and the tower was added in 1962. A plaque on the bell tower records: The bell was dedicated by His Grace the Archbishop of Brisbane - Dr Sharp and is inscribed: "May God bless all whom I do call. - To the honour and Glory of God, and to - the dear memory of Francis Grayson, - this bell is given to St Mark's Church, - Warwick, by Jane Grayson, his wife, 1929 The belfry was the gift of Jane's children. Francis Grayson 1849-1927 was a Church Warden, Synodsman - Parochial Nominator and Councillor. He was three times - Mayor of Warwick, and sixteen years MLA for Cunningham. This plaque is given to St Mark's Church by descendants of - Francis and Jane Grayson in Australia's Bi-Centennial Year 1988. |
