Foundation Stone Notes: | The foundation stone was laid on 17/11/1909 by Mrs C C King. The text on the foundation stone is not known. Information/photographs are invited. The foundation stone for the first church building was laid on 2/7/1874 by Miss Hendry. The text on the founadtion stone is not known. Information/photographs are invited. An information board records: Georgetown and Clover Hill - Baptist Churches - In 1873, the SA Baptist Association appointed Rev David Badger to plan Baptist Churches in the Northern Areas as the SA Government opened up land for farming. In 1874, Georgetown was the first place in the Northern Areas in which David unfurled the Baptist flag.. Services were first held in a Store and a Church was founded. An Octagonal-shaped Building that cost 500 pounds, was erected on land given to the Church, and opened on October 25, 1874. After 35 years, the Church built on the corner of James and Fisher Streets, was opened on 3rd April, 1910. In 1875 land was given to build a place of Worship at Clover hill, approx. 4 miles North East of Georgetown, which became part of the Baptist Circuit. - Harvest Thanksgivings, Church and Sunday School Anniversaries were grand occasions with elaborate displays of local produce and flora.
