Foundation Stone Notes: | Information plaque records: St John's Lutheran Church - This congregation was formed in 1865. The first services were held in J F August Habel's home until 1866. The new Pine Hut School/Church was used until this church was dedicated on 24th September 1871. Pastor E D Appelt of the Evangelical Lutheran Synod of Neukirch was the Minister who founded the congregation. He came to live in Dutton in 1869 in the house opposite. - - The bell tower housing 2 bells imported from Germany was erected in 1891 on four large gum tree trunks. From 1895 to 1928 Dutton was a Parish centre. J F August Habel's Home - Lutheran services were held in this home (situated on Dutton Mail Road) by Dr C Mucke of Tanunda and Pastor E D Appelt of Neukirch from 1863-1866 prior to the opening of the Pine Hut School/Church (situated on Valley Farm Road). Plaque above the entrance records: Ev Luth St Johannes Kirche - Built - A D 1871. |
