A stone tablet on the lower front wall of the present church building records: * Emblem*  A.M.D.G. - In Fide Et Caritate - 7th October 1928. [This foundation stone was laid by Dr A Killian, Bishop of Port Augusta].

Emblem on a stone tablet shows a cross with CREDO (I Believe) on cross arms, and text reading Eucharistic Congress, Sydney Sept. 1928.

The foundation stone for the second church building was laid by Bishop Christopher Reynolds on 11/11/1877.

The St James' Catholic Church, Jamestown is in the Parish of Jamestown and part of the Diocese of Port Pirie. The present church building was opened on 5/5/1929. Two earlier church buildings had occupied this site, the first opened in 1873 and the second on 17/3/1878. The latter was demolished in 1927. A parish hall was opened on 31/5/1925.
