The St Agnes Catholic Church, Marrabel is part of the Parish of Riverton/Manoora and the Diocese of Adelaide. The church building was blessed and opened on 5/7/1868 by Fr John Smyth, Vicar-General, and replaced a primitive pine & pug structure used as a chapel from about 1850. "1868 was one of the wettest years on record. The roads were quagmires, the rivers were continuously in flood, and the was no bridge over the River Light north of Kapunda. Therefore the parishioners east of the Light River who attended the opening of the church in 1868 must have swum the river with their horses"1. The new church building was erected on land donated by Mr Garrett Hannan, one of the early settlers. Extensions were made to the church building in 1914. The church celebrated its centenary on 30/6/1968, with Archbishop Gleeson in attendance, and its 150th anniversary in July 2018. The building of the church was associated with The Society of Jesus (the Jesuits). A cemetery is located beside the church.
