St Martin's commenced in 1850 with their church dedicated on October 5th, 1862. Also in 1850 the Boandik Congregation commenced reading services with their church dedicated on November 27th 1860. These two combined in 1900 as St Martin's. In 1948 a new congregation was formed known as "The Evangelical Lutheran St Matthew's Congregation of Mount Gambier". Their first church was dedicated on May 24th, 1953. This congregation amalgamated with St Martin's in January 1968 to form the current St Martin's congregation.
