An information board records: The Uniting Church - The Methodist Church was built in 1884 by Mr Garrett at a cost of 457 [pounds]. By 1894 the church had proven to be too small and the services were being held in the town hall. It was eventually decided to extend the present one in 1898. - Because of the growing Sunday School, it was decided to build classrooms at the rear of the church in 1905. They were used as classrooms until Lake Hall was officially opened on 17 March 1912. - The hall was named after the Reverend Octavius Lake who was the minister at the time and was chiefly responsible for the raising of the 800 [pounds] required to build it. The Sunday School at that time had 231 scholars and 12 teachers. - In 1977 the Methodist, Congregational and Presbyterians Churches combined to form the Uniting Church of Australia.

The Peterborough Community Christian Church began on 1/1/2019 in the former Peterborough Uniting Church building, which it also acquired in 2019. The first Methodist service in Peterborough was conducted by the Rev A W Wellington in 1879, under the banner of the Primitive Methodist Church, but retired in favour of the Wesleyan Methodist Church the next year. The original building was erected for the Wesleyan Methodist Church and opened in 1884. It became part of the Methodist Church in the early 1900s and then the Uniting Church in 1977. More historical information/photographs of the church(es)/congregation(s) are invited. Photographs uploaded 3/2/2024 & 3/11/2024.
