The former Wesleyan Methodist Church, Port Vincent is now a ruin [Hickman Ruin].
'This was the first church to be built by the Wesleyans in the vicinity of Port Vincent. It was constructed in 1886 on land owned by T W Correll. Originally the church was the venue for fortnightly services, but from September 1888 they were held weekly. It seems that the congregation must have dwindled over the following years. In June 1891 it was decided that a monthly rather than a weekly service would be more suitable. Regular services at this church had ceased before 1900. The church was used at intervals by other denominations, and one of the last services in the building is understood to have been a Lutheran baptism in 1909. Regular Methodist services were held in Port Vincent after the construction of the church in the township in 1909".1 (see separate entry - Port Vincent Uniting Church - 5581).
More historical information/photographs of the former church/congregation are invited. Photograph uploaded 4/4/2025.
