The St Therese's Chapel, Streaky Bay is a Mass Centre for the Society of Saint Pius X, which sits outside the formal Catholic Church. It was founded on 1/11/1970 by Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre, in response to requests of young men interested in a traditional priestly formation. Eleven young men began their studies under the archbishop at a new seminary in Econe, Switzerland. Only Latin rite of Mass permitted. "Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre was a man of the Church, missionary, founder of the SSPX, - a man who helped preserve the tradition of the Church after Vatican II."
