The former Our Lady of Dolors Catholic Church, Yongala closed and the property was sold. The church had been part of the Diocese of Port Pirie. The building was originally erected for the Wesleyan Methodist Church in 1881. It was closed about 1900 with the amalgamation of the various Methodist churches. It was sold in 1903 to the Very Rev J H Norton, Vicar-General of the Catholic Church and was opened as Our Lady of Dolors Catholic Church on 18/9/1904, by the Bishop of Augusta, the Right Rev Dr Malier. (See - Opening of Catholic Church at Yongala - Quorn Mercury (SA: 1895-1954) Tuesday 27th September 1904 p1).
The building was also used for some services by the local Anglican congregation.
More historical information/photographs of the former church/congegation are invited. Photograph uploaded 5/11/2018.
