Foundation Stone Notes: | Foundation stone records: This stone was laid - by - H Simpson Newland - CBE DSO MS FRCS - 16th April 1927. A stone tablet in a window surround records: To the - Glory of God - and - in memory of - The Reverend - R W Newland - and - of his son - Simpson Newland - CMG. An historical plaque records: Newland Memorial Uniting Church - To cater for the increasing size of the congregation, particularly the influx of summer visitors, this very distinctive church was built to seat 500 people. Its unique design features a crescent-shaped front facade with six imposing Iconic columns. The church is highly regarded for its acoustics which are excellent for music, along with the semi-circular seating arrangement that brings the audience closer. Newland Memorial Church was dedicated to the memory of pioneer pastor, Reverend Ridgway W Newland, and his son Simpson Newland. It was opened in 1927 by a grandson of the pastor, Sir Henry Newland, a well known Adelaide surgeon. An historic plaque records: Newland Memorial Churches - Right [see combined photograph 3 for the 'Newland Memorial Uniting Church Hall' - a separate entry.] - The first Newland Congregational Church - built in 1868 - 69 by E Weymouth. - The second Church was built in 1927. - Both later Uniting Churches, are memorials to Rev Ridgway Newland, - who led the first group of permanent settlers to Encounter Bay in 1839. |

The Newland-Port Elliot Uniting Church (formerly Newland Memorial Uniting Church), Victor Harbor amalgamated with the Port Elliot Uniting Church (see separate entry - 5212) in 2022. It is part of the Presbytery of Southern SA and the Uniting Church of Synod of South Australia. The first Newland church building was erected in 1869 and the second in 1927.
