The Christ Church Anglican Church, Longford is part of the Parish of Longford/Perth and the Diocese of Tasmania. The earliest Anglican services in the district date from about 1827, being held in the open air. The first church temporary building on the site was erected about 1829 and replaced about 1831 by a brick church building dedicated to St Augustine. This building was demolished in 1842, when the present building was constructed between 1839-44. The present church was opened on 6/10/1844 by Lord Bishop Nixon, the state's first bishop, although it was not fully completed. After further work in the late 1870s, it was re-opened in December 1880, and consecrated by Bishop Bromby in January 1882. Todays imposing west-end tower was not completed until the 1960s. A cemetery is located beside the church. More historical information/photographs of the church/congregation are invited. Photographs uploaded 09/09/2016.
