St Luke's Anglican Church

The St Luke's Anglican Church, Richmond is part of the Parish of Sorel, Richmond & Tasman and the Diocese of Tasmania. The present church building was completed in 1836, although a wedding and possibly other activities had been held earlier, in the partly completed building. The building was erected on a site gifted by Mr Butcher, the construction of which included convict labour. The church building was consecrated on 19/5/1838 by the Rev W G Broughton, Bishop of Australia. The building stands today practically unchanged from when it was built, excepting repairs and maintenance. The clock, gifted to the church and installed in 1922, was restored in 2004, and together with the double-sided lectern came from the old St Davids Cathedral, Hobart.
