St Patrick's Catholic Church - Former

The former St Patrick's Catholic Church, Blessington had been part of the Diocese of Hobart. The church closed some years ago, and the property was sold about 2001. The earliest record of Mass being celebrated in the district was in 1879, when Fr Joseph McKernan travelled from Longford to celebrate the Mass in a private home. This became a quarterly celebration, and from 1905 Mass was also being celebrated in Upper Blessington. A church building was subsequently erected and was opened in Blessington on 28/1/1919, Monsignor Gilleran, officiating. Many in the local community were of Catholic Irish origin.  More historical  information/photographs of former church/congregation are invited. Photographs uploaded 21/10/2017 & 3/9/2023.
