The former Don Uniting Church closed some years ago, and the property was sold in 2010. It had been part of the Presbytery of Tasmania and the Uniting Church Synod of Victoria & Tasmania. The earliest Congregationalists in the district date from about 1840, with the church building being opened on 28/12/1862, by the Rev William Law. It is now referred to as "Don Chapel". No other details are known. More historical information/photographs of the former church/congregation are invited. Photographs uploaded 14/11/2018.

The following newspaper article provided by Rob Howard on 17/3/2021 (great grandson of Richard Bird, church deacon).

The Advocate, Monday, March 16, 1992, p4. "The Don Uniting Church was filled to capacity yesterday for a special thanksgiving service for Bird family descendents.

The service was organised as a special feature of a two-day reunion for descendents of Richard and Ann Bird (nee Chaston), who arrived in Tasmania in March 1862, on board the Black Swan with the first five of their 10 children.

Almost 200 descendents, from all Australian staes and New Zealand, attended Sunday's activities while more than 100 attended yesterday's 11.30 am service, conducted by Richard and Ann Bird's great grandson, the Rev Roy Ferguson, of Sydney.

Mr Richard Bird was a deacon of the church for many years.

Following the service, a tree-planting ceremony was held in the church grounds..."
