Within five years of Beaconsfield's great gold reef being unearthed in 1877, it supported Tasmania's largest population outside Hobart and Launceston. Constant renovations were demanded of the 1878 Brandy Creek Holy Trinity Anglican Church, as it was originally known, until the present building was opened in 1909. - Parishioners were undaunted by the cost of the church building. Zealous fundraising included sewing guilds, doll stalls, fancy stalls, concerts, teas, bazaars and socials, epitomising the spirit of a self sufficient community. |
