The former St Matthew's Presbyterian Church, Tunbridge closed, and the building was transported to Taranna in 1972, for use by the Southern Presbyterian Church (see separate entry - 7180). The first Presbyterian church built near Tunbridge was erected on the Ballochmyle Estate of Mr James MacLanachan (date not known). Upon his death in 1884 his estate provided for a new church building to be erected closer to Tunbridge. The St Matthew's church building was subsequently erected/opened on 11/4/1886, the land being provided by W Jones Esq, and the cost of the building by the estate of Mr MacLanachan. More historical information/photographs of the former church/congregation are invited. Photograph uploaded 3/5/2023.
PS. The exact location of the former church building is not known.
