A plaque on Bell Tower records: This Tower - has been erected - to the memory of - The Very Rev Dr Backhaus - Pioneer Priest of Bendigo 1852-1882 - who died 7 Septr 1882 aged 72 years - May he rest in peace - J O O Connell; Nee Halfpenny. A large plaque erected in May 2010 by the German Heritage Society records further information on the German Catholic Pioneers in establishing St Kilians. |
