This former Beechwoth Methodist Church has closed, and the property is now privately owned. It was built in 1857, and was the first permanent church building on the Ovens goldfields.
The first Methodist church services were held in the open air, then in a tent and then in a wooden schoolhouse erected in 1854. It was replaced, on the same site, by the red brick Sunday School building erected in 1869.
The buildings ceased being used for church services in 1966 when the Methodist and Congregational churches in Beechworth amalgamated.
More historical information/photographs of the former church/congregation are invited. Photographs uploaded 19/11/2017.
