Foundation Stone Notes: | The foundation stone was ceremonially laid on 27 March 1860 by Mrs Celia Scott of Mount Buninyong, the oldest resident in the district. The building was constructed of brick and tile, but in the 1950s was covered in roughcast and plaster. Consequently the foundation stone is no longer visible. A masonary plaque high up on the gable records: Erected - AD 1860. A memorial window for the first minister records: This window has been erected to the Memory of the Late Rev Thomas Hastie, Founder and First Pastor of this Church, 1847 ~ 1888. He laboured faithfully and lived consistently beloved and esteemed by all. He entered into his rest April 1898, aged 84.

The Buninyong Uniting Church is part of the Presbytery of Western Victoria and the Uniting Church Synod of Victoria & Tasmania. The church building was erected for the Presbyterian Church in 1860. The first service was held on 26 August 1860. The new brick church replaced the original Kirk on Hastie's Hill. The first church was opened June 1847 and its first Minister the Rev Thomas Hastie (1874-1888). In 1971 the church combined with the local Methodist Church to form the Buninyong United Church, which in 1977 became part of the Uniting Church in Australia. The current building is now used by both the Uniting Church and the Baptist Church of Buninyong.
