Foundation Stone Notes: | A heritage plaque at the St Mary's Catholic Church records: St Paul's Anglican Church - Church of England services were held in private homes, St Andrew's Presbyterian Church, or the Raglan Hotel until 1912 when the local community constructed a church...The foundation stone was laid by Lord Bishop of Bendigo, Bishop John Douse Langley, DD., on 27 June 1913. Most of the cost of the church was raised from fundraising events including subscriptions, picnic meetings, and concerts. - St Paul's was officially opened for services in 1914 by the Rev Clifton P Brown, Canon George Watson and Mr W A Hilliard. - St Paul's Anglican Church at 10 Drake Street, Axedale, continues to offer services today {The church ceased holding services about 2015] A plaque on the bell tower records: To the Glory of God - in memory of - Mary Elizabeth Hulls - Died 12th May 1960 Aged 19 years - Let all who hear this bell search their - soul and give thanks to Almighty God for - His grace and everlasting mercy and 'Lay up - for yourselves treasure in heaven where - neither rust nor moth doth corrupt'. |
