A plaque records: Barkly Church - + The Barkly Church of St Mary and St John was once a private chapel at Woodlands. + It was bought by Judith Cheesman as a place where all creeds could worship. + It was moved the 15 miles to Barkly in 1935. + Rev Brian MCDonald held the first service on 24 November 1935. + The roofing iron was damaged in the transport of the Church to Barkly, the dent in the roof is still present as testimony to the journey. + The bell in the Church yard was relocated from Barkly State School after the closure of the Barkly State School in 1984.
