This building was the original Presbyterian church in Dunkeld built by William Murdoch in 1865. Earlier services were held in the Woolpack Inn and in private homes. A combined effort by the citizens of the town saw the construction of this building. It was used by all denominations for services in the early years. The front porch was added in 1927. The vestry was used as the Police station following the 1944 fires when the Police Station was burnt down. When the Methodist and Presbyterian churches became the Uniting Church, the building was sold and became the home of the Dunkeld and District Historical Museum on the 12th of October 1985, after the huge support of the whole district. Later a second building was purchased from the Free Presbyterian Church at North Byaduk and transported to the site. Local volunteers assisted to brick clad this building to form the second room of the museum, which opened in 1994 |
