A plaque records:
- Doncaster - Church of Christ - In the 1850s and 1860s, the well established Catholic, Anglican, and Protestant denominations usually received government land grants in exclusive locations for their churches. The newer Church of Christ had to buy its own land. It built churches in local shopping centres close to the daily life of the general community.
- In 1889 Doncaster Church of Christ featured a gabled porch, slate roof and pointed arched windows. It was a lively example of Gothic Revival church architecture with bi-chrome (dark brown and cream) brickwork. Although the architect is unknown, it is said the builder was asked to 'make the church blend nicely with the school building across the road'.
- The church had a very pretty facade. Delicate carved wooden tracery on the gables echoed the decorative timber gables on the Primary School opposite, it was a warm, family-friendly and attractive place to meet for social interaction and worship. The front porch was removed in the 1950s to make way for the widening of Doncaster Road.
