St Matthew's Catholic Church - Former

The former St Matthew's Catholic Church, Gunbower has closed, and the property was sold in 2012. The first Mass in the Gunbower district was celebrated in Treacy's Hotel in the 1890s. For more than 30 years the hotel was used by travelling priests, until it became too small, and the celebration of Mass was moved to the Memorial Hall. The St Matthew's church building was opened in June 1926, by Bishop McCarthy of Bendigo. No other details are known.
