St Joseph's Catholic Church

The St Joseph's Catholic Church, Mernda is part of Christ the Light Catholic Parish and the Diocese of Melbourne. The first Mass in the district was celebrated in 1857 in a private home. Plans for a church building commenced in 1874, with contributions from the whole community. It was opened and blessed on 23/2/1884. Today it is too small and Masses are now also celebrated at the Nazareth Centre at the St Joseph's School. The church website notes that toilets were only added to the building in the 1990s.
