Foundation Stone Notes: | The foundation stone was laid on 22/11/1913. The text on the foundation stone is not known. Information/photographs are invited. A heritage plaque records: Church of England - In 1860 the church of England was granted a piece of land for a church school. - The church, called Christ Church, housed a congregation until 1913. It became the Sunday School when the Church of the Epiphany was built at a cost of 649.19.00 [pounds]. - The foundation stone of the present church was laid on 22nd November, 1913 and in 1914 the building was dedicated by the Archbishop of Melbourne. - The internal lining is of Tasmanian blue gum and the altar rails and chancel screen are made of Tasmanian Oak. - A bell was given by the parishioners of St Pauls, Steiglitz when their church closed and the first rang out over Meredith in 1962. - The vicarage at the corner of Lawler Street and Wallace Street was demolished many years ago. - The present Sunday School was moved from Lethbridge in the 1980s. - "Proudly donated by the Epiphany Congregation." |
