St Paul's Anglican Cathedral

The St Paul's Anglican Cathedral, Melbourne is the Cathedral Church of the Diocese of Melbourne, and the seat of the Archbishop of Melbourne. It was consecrated on 22/1/1891 by Rt Rev Field Flowers Goe, Bishop of Melbourne, and replaced the first St Paul's Anglican Church consecrated in 1852. It was built to supersede the 1839 St James Old Cathedral [see separate entry - 3003]. The first Christian service held in Melbourne was conducted in 1835, at the site of the present cathedral.
