Foundation Stone Notes:	The foundation stone was laid in 1873 by Bishop Goold of Melbourne. The text on the foundation stone is not known. Information/photographs are invited. A plaque records: To the Greater Glory of God - this is to commemorate the - celebration on Sunday May 16, 1976 - marking the centenary of - this Church of St Joseph - Learmonth. A plaque on the fence records: St Joseph's Catholic Church - 1857 - In 1857 a beautiful site on the northern side of the Lake was granted to the Catholics of Learmonth for religious purposes. After a meeting of the district congregation, it was decided to build a long wooden church. During the week days it was used for school. A new brick church, based on a design by the English architect Charles Hansom, was completed in 1876.

The former St Joseph's Catholic Church, Learmonth was part of the Parish of Wendouree and the Diocese of Ballarat. The decision to build the first wooden church/school was taken in 1857. The present church building was erected on the same site and consecrated by the First Bishop of Ballarat, the Most Rev Dr O'Connor, on 17/5/1876. The final service in the church building was held on 12/1/2020. The church was then closed and the property sold in December 2021. No other details are known.
