A heritage sign records: Murrabit All Saints' Church of England - Murrabit All Saints is the oldest church in Murrabit with land purchased by Bendigo Diocese at a State auction in 1924. Donations from established farmers and new migrant settlers helped in the the building, dedicated on November 28, 1926. All Saints' Ladies Guild held its first fete the day before the church was opened and raised enough money to liquidate the remaining debt on the building. - From 1926~1928, the choir master was a migrant settler FA Pitman, who prior to coming to Australia had conducted the Greek Orthodox Cathedral Choir in London. In 1927 a social club was formed that became very popular and established the first local tennis court on the church grounds. - Harvest festivals were held each year followed by a concert the next evening at which fruit and vegetables were auctioned. The Ladies Guild raised the cash for the Sunday School building and church repairs by holding annual fetes, debutante balls and catering for weddings. |
