The Wilderness Uniting Church, Strathdownie no longer appears to be functioning, as it is no longer listed on the Uniting Church website. The earliest record of services in the district was in 1851. The first church building was erected about 1861, with the early services conducted in Gaelic. In 1875 a new church building was erected close to where the present building stands. The present church building was erected in 1908 and was donated by Mr James Moles. It was dedicated by the Rev Caldwell from Mt Gambier.
