Foundation Stone Notes: | An historical plaque records: Christ Church stands at the top of 'School Hill', at the eastern entrance to Skipton, where the roads from Ballarat and Geelong meet. The first Church of England services in Skipton were held in 1910, in the Mechanics Hall. In 1913 a timber church building was brought in from Happy Valley to a block of land given by Mrs Charles Fairbairn. The present church was built in 1924, thanks to the efforst of the congregation, and with the assistance of the family of F S Austin...In the nave are stained glass windows in memory of members of the Fairbairn, Ridley and Austin families. In the entrance porch is a window given by George Lines, designed by his son Benedict and crafted by George Ferguson. A plaque records: Erected 1924 - First Service Held - Sunday November 30th - 1924. |
