The Mount Prospect Presbyterian Church, Newlyn North (which now functions in conjunction with the Smeaton Presbyterian Church) is part of the Presbytery of Western Victoria, the Parish of Ballarat North and the Presbyterian Church of Victoria. The church began about 1861 with the church building being erected/opened in 1869. This was during the gold rush days and the church building was opened free of debt.
