The former Yarrawonga Methodist Church was formed in the late 1800s, and had an unsteady history, with the first church building being a wooden structure bought from the Presbyterians and erected at 11 Orr Street, (a site subsequently occupied by the Yarrawonga Church of Christ - see separate entry - 3730). By 1902 the church was flourishing and the Rev Flentje was appointed as minister, and Yarrawonga became a circuit. However, by 1914 things had changed and the Conference decided to withdraw from Yarrawonga, and the property was sold two years later. In 1934 Methodism in Yarrawonga came to life again, with the Rev Weeks appointed as minister, and services being held in the Scout Hall in Hume Street. A new church building was opened and dedicated on 17/7/1937 by the Rev T C Rentoul, General Superintendent of Home Missions, assisted by other clergy1. The church closed when the numbers declined and the congregation was absorbed into the Katamatite Methodist Circuit in 1948. The property was sold after the formation of the Uniting Church in 1977. More historical information/photographs of the former church/congregation are invited. Photograph uploaded 5/11/2023.
