The Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Yea is part of the Parish of Yea and the Diocese of Melbourne. The earliest worship in the first years of the settlement, would have been private family affairs. Otherwise settlers had to rely on occasional visits from travelling priests to lead formal worship, with the first Mass believed to have been celebrated in the home of Thomas McAsey1 in the late 1850s. The current church building was opened on 26/10/1902 by Archbishop Carr, from Melbourne, and replaced the original wooden church building erected in the 1880s. It then became the church hall, and was later used as a school building from about 1923 till 1957. More historical information/photographs of the church/congregation are invited. Photographs uploaded 17/11/2017.
