The following was provided by Ormes Sawyer (10/4/2024)."Warncoort Methodist Church was the oldest Methodist Church in the Colac District and in 1916 had recently unrgone extensive improvements. Towards the close of 1857, Mr Harding conducted services at Mr Alexander Dennis' home (Tarndwarncoort homestead), the congregation numbering some 30-40. The Dennis family gave half an acre and greatly contributed to the cost of the building and (pounds)142 was raised. Constructed of bluestone carted by John Roberts and Joseph Williamson, comprised one large room for public worship and school purposes and two smaller rooms for a teacher's residence. The quaint Church with its two chimneys was opened in the Spring of 1858 by Rev G Daniel. Shortly afterward, Josiah Hiskins began a day school in the Church and following his removal to Sorrento was followed by a Mr Whitfield. Then Mrs A Dennis and her two daughters commenced the Sunday School. What was once the teacher's residence, eventually became the Vestry".
