Foundation Stone Notes: | Foundation stone records: This stone - was laid by - John Robb Esqr JP - of Melbourne - 1st June 1885. A plaque records: Uniting Church - The Uniting Church took its name when the Presbyterian, Methodist and Congregational churches amalgamated in 1977. The building was remodolled during the 1980's and the archetictural styles of the old and new have been harmoniously blended. - Originally it was a Wesleyan Methodist Church, erected in 1885 at a cost of 900 pounds. The 25,000 bricks in the building were burnt at Joseph Trotman's Waldara property. The foundation stone was laid by John Robb and the first service conducted by Dr D E Watkin. The Rev J A Osborne was the first minister. - The stained glass windows came from St Paul's Presbyterian Church, which is now the Exhibition Gallery. A plaque records: Renovations and extensions to - The Emmanuel Uniting Church, Wangaratta - making the culmination of the coming together of - The Rowan Street Methodist and - St Paul's Presbyterian Congregations - were opened by - Alf Brisbane, Elder - and Emily Ambrosio, aged 4 years - and dedicated by Kevin Chapman, - Chairman of the Presbytery of Goulburn-Murray - on Sunday 23rd November 1986 - Praise be to God. |
