The St Joseph's Catholic Church, Warrnambool is part of the Parish of South West Coast and the Diocese of Ballarat. 'The present church building was completed on 23/9/1889. Until 1849 there was no permanent place of worship for Catholics in Warrnambool. Initially a small wooden building was erected on the cnr of Kelp and Timor Streets. Dean Thomas Slattery was the first parish priest of Warrnambool, who took up residence in 1853. No other details are known.
