A plaque records:: To the Glory of God - and in memory of - Cecily Biddle - Commemorating the 50th anniversary - of the consecration of this church - by - The Right Rev John Frewer - Bishop of North West Australia - on 15th December 1935 - Erected by the parishioners 15.12.1985. A street information plaque records: St Georges Church was consecrated on 15th December 1935. - St Georges Anglican Church is a simple and romantic village church modelled along lines of an old English Church. - The Foundation Stone was laid in 1935 and the church consecrated the same year. - Construction of St Georges was financed partly by local parishioners and partly with donations from Brede, Sussex, England, the former home of one of the locals. - The tower contains a bell that was made in England, and a piece of stone quarried in France approximately 1,000 years ago, formerly part of the cornice on St George's Church in Brede England, was fixed to the porch wall of the Bluff Point Church in 1961. - St Georges is somewhat similar to some of Monsignor Hawes' many Roman Catholic buildings throughout the Mid West and may have been an effort to raise the image of Anglican churches in the district. |
