Church services were held regularly near by from the beginning of the Upper Swan Settlement. The Rev W Mitchell was appointed Rector in 1838 and the first service held in this ...the oldest church building in Western Australia on January 10th 1841. Bishop Short of Adelaide consecrated the Building in November 1848, this being part of his Diocese..." A plaque inside records: "To the Glory of God - in memory of - Rev William Mitchell - Founder of this Church - 31st Oct. 1839 - First Rector of this Parish - erected by his family - 4th August 1979".
