St John the Baptist Anglican Church

Foundation stone records: "This stone was laid - to the Glory of God - by the - Hon James Mitchell MLA - on February 16th 1910...". 

A bicentennial plaque records: St John's Anglican Church - This gothic church was built between 1909 and 1910 and consecrated on April 24th, 1910. In the early days it was lit by gaslight. - Plaqued by structural problems which were worsened by the 1968 earthquake, efforts to stregthen the building have included steel bands (1931) and relocation of the original front entrance to one side.
