The former St Saviour's Anglican Church, Kanowna had its genesis with the arrival of the young Rev R H Moore (from Ireland) in 1898. The town was in a gold boom with the population increasing by over 10,000 in a couple of years. The church building was erected about 1900, with many novel activities undertaken to clear the debt by the end of the year. However, with the alluvial gold being rapidly exhausted and with declining production from the mines, the population declined. After about 27 years at Kanowna, the dismantled church building was acquired by the Rev F M Oliver and transported to Wyalkatchem (200 miles away), and re-erected for use by the people there1. (see separate entry - 6485). More historical information/photographs of the former church/congregation ae invited. Photograph uploaded 25/5/2022.
