The Our Lady of Mt Carmel Catholic Church, Mullewa is in the Parish of Mullewa/Mingenew and the Diocese of Geraldton. Mass had begun to be celebrated in Mullewa about 1910. The first church building, a small hall like structure was erected at the cnr Gray & Thomas Streets, and was blessed and opened by Bishop Kelly in 1912. This structure was moved to the present site, and a wood and iron presbytery building built nearby. Fr John Hawes, who had trained as an architect, prior to becoming a priest, was appointed to this charge (1916-1938). He had plans for a larger structure which dated from 1920. Work on the building proceeded with stops and starts. Hawes worked largly on his own as mason, with some paid assistance from local parishioners. The completed church was opened in May 1927 by Archbishop Clune. Over the years many improvements and additions have been made to the building. In May 1977 the church celebrated its jubilee, [Sourced from: https://inherit.dplh.wa.gov.au/public/inventory/printsinglerecord/df06acfb-b227-4d5b-9047-8d991ba9791c].
