The St Francis of Assissi Catholic Church, Newdegate is part of the Parish of Lake Grace and the Diocese of Bunbury. Mass was celebrated in the area for the first time, in a shed converted by Mr & Mrs Ernest Smith to function as a Chapel, on 18/6/1950. Land was later purchased for the erection of a new chapel, which was fashioned from an ex-army hut, and opened by Archbishop Prenderville on 11/8/1957. The present church building was officially blessed and opened by Archbishop Goody on 30/3/1973. The parish celebrated its 60th annivesary in 2016.
